But…I was assured this would never happen…

Oh, wonderful:

Those of you who were following the efforts of then SECDEF Ash Carter to open up all combat roles to women during the Obama administration probably recall some of his comments at the time. In 2015, when the U.S. Marine Corps was told to integrate women into combat duty, Carter was very clear in stating that standards would not be lowered and the women would have to compete on even footing with the men. The New York Times covered his announcement at the time. (Emphasis added)

There will be no exceptions,” Mr. Carter said at a news conference. He added, “They’ll be allowed to drive tanks, fire mortars and lead infantry soldiers into combat. They’ll be able to serve as Army Rangers and Green Berets, Navy SEALs, Marine Corps infantry, Air Force parajumpers and everything else that was previously open only to men.”

The defense secretary sought to assuage those concerns on Thursday by saying that every service member would have to meet the standards of the jobs they wished to fill, and “there must be no quotas or perception thereof.”

Unfortunately, one of the requirements to become a Marine combat officer is to pass the Combat Endurance Test (CET). One Marine I know who lived through the experience simply described it as “hell.” Many of the details are not made available to the public at large, but the majority of men who attempt the feat fail. The number of women who passed the course can apparently be counted on one hand.

Read the whole thing and feel your blood begin to boil.  Don’t believe it will happen?  The army has female Rangers now – Actual, tabbed Rangers, and we were assured that would never happen either.

Facebook a**holes

This is why I’m not on FB.  My wife’s engaged in an argument regarding gun control that’s been rolling since last night – Some jerk (one of those whose self esteem hinges on winning arguments on the Internet) is snarking at her about why the 2A should be repealed…I read his posts this morning and sent my wife this via email:

Just put each link in a separate post (not the text of the article, just the link to it), it will give him plenty to read.  These are the actual state and federal Supreme Court decisions over the second amendment (District of Columbia vs. Heller is the final say until some other jerk brings a case before the court).  And tell him I appreciate his decree as to what I am and am not entitled to [aside: She mentioned that she’d ask her wounded veteran, Infantry officer husband what he thought, and the jerk wrote a mini-article as to what I’m entitled to think / say), but I’ll defer to the Constitution and the Supreme Court for that rather than some guy on Facebook.

And here’s the killer argument from Ben Shapiro, one of the smartest political analysts out there:

Zuckerberg really has created hell on Earth for those who use it to argue politics, but I’ll be damned if I let some creep tell me what I should be thinking while I’m cleaning my .357 in my boxer shorts (sorry, that’s an awful image, I know) with my shrapnel scars in full view on my legs – Even if he’s not addressing me directly.

Andrew Klavan:

It was after a school shooting near Spokane last September that Spokane Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich addressed a clutch of reporters:

“When I was in high school, every one of those rigs in the high school parking lot had a gun in the gun rack. Why? [FickleGreen: Mine was a Ruger 10-22 with a cheap pawn shop scope – We hunted squirrels, not deer in Central Texas] We went hunting on the way home. None of those guns ever walked into a school, none of those guns ever shot anybody… Did the gun change or did you as a society change? I’ll give you odds it was you as a society. Because you started glorifying cultures of violence. You glorified the gang culture, you glorified games that actually gave you points for raping and killing people. The gun didn’t change, we changed.”

It seems clear to me the sheriff was speaking about rap music with its hateful, violent and misogynistic lyrics, and video games like Grand Theft Auto, where you can have sex with a prostitute then strangle her or pull an innocent person out of a car, beat him, then steal his vehicle.

I am a First Amendment purist and don’t want to see expression censored in any way. And I don’t argue that there’s a straight line between any specific cultural creation and bad acts. But surely, a culture in which those in authority approve of and argue for things like gangsta rap and GTA — and indeed for the use of violence to silence speech that offends them — well, such a culture becomes a machine for transforming madness into murder.

Oh, that will fix it

I’m sure The Donald will pack his bags and head off into the night if THIS happens:

They can’t stand each other, but a founding member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young says a shared, intense dislike for President Trump could ultimately get the estranged band back together.

“They’re all mad at me. But they all dislike Donald Trump very much, the same way I do,” David Crosby tells Billboard magazine of his former bandmates in an interview published Monday.

“We dislike [Trump] intensely because he’s a spoiled child who can’t do his job,” the 76-year-old “Wooden Ships” singer says.

“So a reunion is possible. We don’t like each other, but we like Trump a whole lot less.”

Calling Trump a “wretched person,” Crosby says the president is “the worst kind of landlord; and a racist.”

It’s not the first time that the band’s founding member has hinted at a possible reunion due to hostility towards the commander in chief.

In December, Crosby retweeted a Variety article with the headline: “Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Could Reunite — Because They Hate Trump More Than Each Other.”

How old are these clowns?  Old enough to think that “protest music” will make a difference.  The world I wake up in is stupider every day.

It’s the Cowboys.  Well, it’s Roger Goodell and the NFL, really, but I don’t feel particularly bad for Dallas…Growing up in Texas I was always a Houston Oilers fan.  As Bum Phillips said, “The Cowboys might be America’s team, but the Oiler’s are Texas’ team”.

This social justice s*** is going to eat America alive.  It’s all I can do not to argue with my grown a** daughters about it…And dammit, I miss football.

As expected, the Cowboys’ season finale clocked in with the team’s lowest Sunday television rating of the season in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. The Cowboys’ 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles earned a 23.6 rating, which represents 625,046 homes in the area. That bettered only the season low, which came on Thanksgiving when the Cowboys’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers earned a relatively microscopic 18.6. That represented 492,621 homes. By the way, ratings, which gauge homes tuned in, are usually lower on Thanksgiving because folks tend to gather in one home. Still, the 18.6 is stunning. The 2016 Thanksgiving game, for example, scored a 30.0 against Washington.

But, but, the narrative!

I’ve written about this before, and been called a right wing, anti-globalization nut for it, but, ahem:

The recent influx of mostly young, male migrants into Germany has led to an increase in violent crime in the country, according to a government-funded study published Wednesday.

The study used figures from the northern state of Lower Saxony to examine the impact of refugee arrivals on crime in 2015 and 2016, a period when the number of violent crimes reported increased by 10.4 percent.

The authors concluded that 92 percent of the additional crimes recorded could be attributed to the increase in refugee numbers.

It noted that the demographic composition of the refugee population is a major factor. Young males — whether Germans or migrants — are generally more likely to commit crimes, but also more likely to become victims of violence.

The findings add to the ongoing debate in Germany about how to tackle migrant crime, which has been fanned by a number of high-profile incidents . Parties on the right, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Union bloc, want a tough response and more deportations, while those on the left say more needs to be done to integrate refugees into German society.

Wait a minute.  Frau Merkel wants a “tough response” and “more deportations”?  For God’s sake, she’s the very person who mandated al-Germany accept a million “Syrian” immigrants per year to start with!

Honestly, I weep for my mother’s country.  It’s past saving.
